Toddler
No, still not walking more than a couple of steps between Mom and Dad. But that’s not the important distinction between a toddler and a baby to me. What makes him a toddler is that when I hold him now, if he is not entertained by being allowed to grab at whatever I’m doing, he wiggles and squirms his way out of my arms to crawl about and explore. The only time he wants to be held is for brief hugs and for travelling.
Also: tantrums. Today has been the first of what I assume are many such days to come. It started out with Robin cranky and miserable in his bed so we cuddled in my bed for a while. That was rare, and nice. I got up to get dressed when he’d dozed off, and he woke up while I was in the bathroom and slid off the bed (he knows how to do this now) and came to see me. He seemed cheerful, so we went downstairs for breakfast, where he proceeded to have a screaming fit because he didn’t want to eat his food or drink his bottle. After he calmed down from that he sadly asked for his bottle. I gave it to him. He proceeded to dribble it all over his playpen. I took it away. More screaming!
Now he is playing peacefully. It will last until I thwart him again! Oooh, is the thwarting beginning? I wonder how I’m angering him now!
PS. Also, I hear toddlers don’t eat.

What I focus on in those moments is that it is not personal. It is just part of finding out “what happens if I?”. He is a little scientist conducting his experiments.
Sometimes toddlers eat a lot, other times not so much. It is part of the excitement.
On the up side, they could not be more interesting.
