I’m worn out a lot lately, but I’m losing weight. It’s hard not to beat myself up for spending an entire year procrastinating, especially when I knew as much as I did about what the results of my procrastination would be. It’s hard not to feel like… I lack value, like my external state represents my internal failings. Like being miserable is no more than I deserve, because I had a chance to avoid it.
I resisted peer-provided doughnuts today.
Somewhere beneath the squishy flesh appears to be a core of diamond. I don’t really believe in me, but I believe in it. Maybe as the squishy fades away, we’ll merge.

ended up being a partial list of creepy things and lovely things (to balance the creepy things late at night). I thought I’d share ten of each:
Creepy Things:
A clock striking 13
Towers behind the moon
Belongings in a different place from where you left them
A dog’s howl
A train whistle far from tracks
A foghorn far from sea
A broken doll
Things a stranger has lost
Cellars
Giant bugs
Lovely things:
Sunrise
A running horse
A pair of wings
A starry night
Lace
Roses
a modern Corvette
Words
Dancers
Sunshine

The day before yesterday, our hot water heater broke. Yesterday, our fabulous landlords showed up at 8 AM, bought a new hot water heater and installed it. This was pretty cool. At least, from our perspective.
Hannah, on the other hand, spent a wretched three hours whining and barking and crying because there were strangers moving boxes around the outside of the house, into her back yard, and mole people were trying to tunnel up from the basement and steal her toys. By the time the install was done and I was leaving for work, Hannah was as exhausted as she is after a really long walk; it was reported she zonked out shortly after that.
This morning, the luggage I ordered showed up. Because it was in three large boxes, it took the UPS guy quite a while to pull all the boxes out of the back of the truck. Again, Hannah had something to say about this. I think she really prefers the milkman and mailman, who do familiar things, and leave after she barks a couple of times. These stubborn enemies make her insecure.

So, I spent a few days this week investigating RSS feeders. I’d been using Livejournal, but I really don’t like its single-stream presentation. And I knew there were dedicated feed aggregators out there, and I wanted to try one and see if it help me keep better track of sites I wanted to track.
Eventually, after doing research and looking at the offline and online options, I decided on Bloglines. Being on the web, it’s cross-platform, and it wasn’t trying to sell me any premium services. Yay.
Feed aggregators seem to work in the two-paned method that first showed up for GUI newsreaders. I guess they’re just evolutions of newsreaders, after all. It’s not totally to my taste, but it’s probably the best way of handling a large number of feeds (complete with subfolders and so forth).
So now I’ve been adding feeds from livejournal and other sites in, and looking for new things to add. I may not use it much but hey, it’s worth a try. I spent some time looking for a blog that published weekly or daily creative writing challenges– it seems like an obvious niche– but I haven’t found one yet. If anybody knows of one, let me know!
I’m also not sure if I can subscribe to photoblogs. It didn’t seem to work on the blog I tried but I don’t know if that one was freaky or something.
Dad: I will communicate tux description to you. We’re not dressing the parents.
I figure you can dress up or not, as you feel comfortable doing. Well, ‘dress up’ being relative, since it’s supposed to be a relatively nice affair. Afternoon semi-formal? Something like that.
I put together a first draft of an Amazon registry yesterday. We might do more registry work this weekend. Also, I need to return library books.
On the feed aggregator front, I really want a task list/calendar that feeds into an aggregator.

I don’t feel like an update! I feel like thinking about Nobilis!
Oh, ok. My bridesmaids got dresses this weekend. We also picked out and ordered Kevin’s tux (and Ray’s groomsman tux) from Men’s Wearhouse. I also read the first three collections of Fable, a comic about entities from children’s literature living in New York City. I also read the most recent two Angel Sanctuary collections. And I’ve been crossing things off my wedding list below (it updates directly).
Yup yup.

He pulled a young woman over to a chair he’d placed in the middle of the room, and sat her in it. Then he stood behind her and spread her blonde hair so it covered the back of the chair, his fingers brushing against her neck. He delicately tilted her head back, and then circled around to stand beside her.
He said something to her, and her breathing deepened in response. Then he knelt beside her and spread her legs. One hand rested lightly on the chair back, while the other went between her legs.
Then he hoisted himself into a handstand, and balanced like that, his bare chest an inch away from her mouth. He moved his legs up, down, and around with a casual elegance. She just breathed, her eyes wide and the moment electric.
His arms bent as he lowered himself, his body still straight. He turned his head towards her, his lips brushing against her collarbone, and then dropped his legs and stood upright again. He took his hand off the chair back, off the chair seat between her legs, adjusted her legs closed again, and bowed before escorting her back to her dinner.
This, among the clatter of the main course being eaten, of waiters delivering drinks, of the Madcap Waiter spilling phantom drinks, of the acrobat Crystalle returning gentlemen’s shoes.

Maybe I should try letting Hannah write about my life. It might be more fun than daily updates. I don’t think I can sanction the misspelling though.
Mostly, while Mouse is adorable, Hannah’s a very different doggie! I want to know what she’s afraid of! Maybe I’ll get her to write an introduction at some point.

I found a clever route to get there, but couldn’t find the actual college for quite some time. Then I couldn’t find the part of the college. Then I couldn’t find a place to park. So I was late, but somebody else was later.
She talked about tuning, she guided us through holding instrument and bow, we plucked strings. It was satisfying. I have some exercises to practice for the next couple of weeks.

At 6 am this morning, I glanced outside and the world was this gentle orange glow: snow covered everything and reflected back the lamplight. Later, at 9:30, we trooped outside to play in the snow. Ray had been up for hours then.
